Teams
Golf is frequently an individual sport, but sometimes you play on a team.
You might just have a two-person team each playing their own ball, or an
eightsome playing one ball. Your team score might be a gross score or a
net score specially computed from individual handicaps. Golf Personal can
handle team scoring and then let you use a team's results in Medal and Match
Play just like you would use an individual's score.
Golf Personal uses a Team Window to keep track
of team members, their scores and any special team scores that you would
like to enter or compute. To open a new empty Team Window, choose New
Team from the Golf menu or type T (Shift-Command-T)
on your keyboard.
 You can quickly
open a new Team Window by clicking on the New Team button in the toolbar.

Team Window with no Team members
A new untitled window will be opened, ready for you to add team members.

Add Player and Add Team Score Buttons
You can add a particular player to a team by clicking the Add Player
button in the Team Window and selecting a player from those you have on
file. You can also drag a player from the Players palette to the Team Window.

Team Window with Two Players
The players can be dragged into whatever position you think they belong.
Golf Personal labels the players A, B, C, etc.

Team Name
Golf Personal also assigns a name for the team, based on the first player's
name. You can change it if you wish.
To add a team score, just click the Add Team Score button and a new scoring
block will be added to the team card - a place for you to enter a team
score. You can add as many team scores as you wish.

Team Window with One Team Score
A team score can't be saved, as a player's score can, but they can be
used (as we'll see later) for matches and medal play competitions.

The Team Score Selector Menu
The team scoring block contains two menus. The first, which is initially
set to the "One ball (Team)" setting, allows you to select the
type of team scoring represented by this block. The first two settings require
that you enter scores for the team. The rest of the settings will automatically
compute a team score result for you. The options are:
- One ball (Team) - Multiple team members play (or score with)
just one ball - like a Scramble, a threesome or a foursome.
- Chapman/Pinehurst - Multiple team members score with one ball
- usually in an alternate-shot format.
- Better-ball (or Best-ball) - The best score of the balls of
two or more team members - like the partners in a three-ball, best-ball
or four-ball match.
- 2 Best-balls - the total of the two best balls of a team of
three or more players.
- 3 Best-balls - the total of the three best balls of a team of
four or more players.
- Total - the total of all of the team member's scores.
- 3/2/1 - the total of the best balls of three or more team members
- three best-balls on a par 3, two best-balls on a par 4, and one best-ball
on a par 5.
- Stableford - total points of one or more team members, based
on the players' scores relative to a fixed score (par or net par).
- Modified Stableford - total Stableford points of one or more
team members with extra points awarded for sub-par scores.
- International - total points of one or more team members based
on the International scoring system, which allows negative scores.

The Team Score Allowance Menu
The team score allowance selector, which is initially set to "Gross,"
allows you to indicate the handicapping allowance to be used to compute
this team score. The available allowances are:
- Gross - Team member scores are used as entered, without adjustment.
- Full Handicap - Team member scores are adjusted at each hole
by the full number of strokes allowed by their handicap - recommended for
individual or total stroke play and Stableford competitions.
- Men 90% Women 95% - Team member scores are adjusted by handicap
strokes based on 90% of men's handicaps and 95% of women's handicaps -
recommended for four-ball (better-ball of partners) and 2 best-ball competition.
- Men 80% Women 90% - Team member scores are adjusted by handicap
strokes based on 80% of men's handicaps and 90% of women's handicaps -
recommended for best-ball of four competition.
- A 50% B 20% - The "A" player receives 50% of the strokes
based on their handicap, the rest of the team members receive 20% of the
strokes based on their handicap - recommended for team one ball, Chapman
and Pinehurst competition.
- Average Combined - The team handicap is computed as the average
of handicaps of all the team members - recommended for foursome competition.
- Average Combined 80% - The team handicap is computed as 80%
of the average of handicaps of all the team members - recommended for foursome
competitions with a selected drive.
For team one ball or Chapman scoring, just enter the team scores in the
space provided:

Team One ball Score Entered
This team score can now be used in a Match or Medal Scores Window (by
dragging the little "team" icon into that window).

Round Handicap Checkbox
For team one ball and Chapman scores, you can indicate that the handicap
used should be rounded (checked) or unrounded (unchecked) when computing
the team's net score - useful for tie-breaking.
So far, we've seen players added to a team window. We can add a player's
round to a Team Window (so we can use it to compute best-balls and other
types of team scores) by linking a players round (on a Scorecard) to the
Team Window. We might, for example, have a foursome of players on a Scorecard
like this:

A Scorecard and Four Players
We'll use these four players in our illustrations for team scoring, Match
Play and Medal Play. We're going to assume that Ty and Al will play as a
two-man team against their playing partners. We open an empty Team Window
for each two-man team and drag the players from the scorecard to their respective
team windows.
There is no requirement that the players come from the same scorecard,
or that they even play from the same tees. You may have several open scorecards
from which you select team members. You can even drag a previously saved
player's round from his open Player document window to a Team Window - you
just won't be able to modify it there.

Team Window with Two Player's Rounds
The resulting "Team Webb" window includes a scoring block for
each player. The symbol to the right of the block indicates that this information
is "linked" to a round on a scorecard. That means that scores
entered here will appear on the scorecard (or if entered on the scorecard,
appear here). If the scorecard is closed and the round discarded, the round
in the Team Window will be "unlinked" - modifiable but not
savable. Rounds linked to previously saved rounds in the player's permanent
record (his Player file) are shown as linked, but locked - not modifiable.

Two Players and their Two Better-Balls
In our illustrative competition, we add two team scores to each team
- a team better-ball without handicap, and another team better-ball at full
handicap. Golf Personal assumes that two (or more) team scores of the same
type means the scores of two (or more) different balls will be required
- that is, the same ball cannot be used for both team scores. In our
example here, the best gross ball of the two players will be used for the
gross better-ball score and the second ball used for the better-ball at
full handicap. When the first ball scores are the same, Golf Personal will
automatically choose the ball that results in the best score on the second
ball.

Rating Adjustment Checkbox
If team members play from different tees, it is sometimes recommended
that the handicaps of the competitors playing from the more difficult tees
(those with higher course ratings) be adjusted for the difference between
the ratings of the tees. Checking the Ratings Adjustment checkbox will tell
Golf Personal to make those handicap adjustments automatically.
When our players finish their round and we've entered their scores -
either directly on the scorecard or from the Team Windows, the resulting
scorecard might look like this:

A Scorecard and Four Complete Rounds
Remember, you can also save all of these entered scores by choosing Save
All Rounds from the Golf menu (or from the File menu)
or by typing S from your keyboard. Of course, you can save
each round individually too, by clicking its Save Round button.
Our Team Windows look like this:

Two Players and their Team Scores
The team's better-ball scores have been automatically determined by Golf
Personal, with consideration of individual scores, handicap strokes applied
as required, ratings adjustments if requested - all done for you. |
