About Scoring Blocks
Each player who is added to a scorecard window is displayed on the scorecard
in a "scoring block," an expandable/collapsible block of information
about that player's round.

An Expanded Scoring Block

A Collapsed Scoring Block
The expanded version of the scoring block allows you to enter scores,
putts, bunkers hit and fairways hit considerable detail about your round.
The collapsed version only provides space for entering scores.
Both the expanded and collapsed versions of the scoring block contain
common parts, including the player's name, the player's handicap rating
or index, and three buttons, which may be enabled or dim, depending on the
information available.
 All scoring blocks
have a little icon that you can use to drag wherever you want the player
- in another window, in a different order. You just click and drag the
player where you want it, then drop it. On a Scorecard, you can also double-click
the player icon to open the Player document for the player.

The player's handicap rating or index
The player's handicap rating or index is displayed according to the method
used to compute the player's handicap. Except for handicapping methods that
compute a handicap "on-the-fly," the handicap rating field can
be edited - simply type in the player's handicap rating or index for
this round and the proper handicap will be computed.
 The Dots Button allows
you to "dot" the scorecard - display the number of strokes
and the holes at which the player receives those strokes based on their
computed handicap for this round. To display handicap dots, just click the
button. To un-dot, click again.

A Scoring Block With Dots
If the insertion point or selection is currently inside a player's scoring
block, you can turn dots on or off by choosing Dots from
the Golf menu or typing .
(Command-Period) on your keyboard.
 The Eraser Button will
erase all the scores or putts and reset all of the sand and fairway buttons
for a player's round. To erase, just click the button. When there's nothing
to erase, the button is dim. When the insertion point or current selection
is in a scoring block, choosing Erase from the Edit
menu or typing E will also erase.
The Save Round button is enabled whenever
you have entered enough information for this player's round to be saved.
When you're changing information for a round that's already saved, the button
says "Replace Round".

The player's handicap
The player's handicap for the round shown on the scorecard is based on
the method used to compute the player's handicap, which may take into account
the player's handicap rating or index and the difficulty of the course -
determined by its Course Rating and/or Slope Rating. That computed handicap
is shown on the player's scorecard.
The expanded version of the player's scoring block includes other features:

Sand and Fairway Buttons
There are two rows of buttons for you to indicate (by clicking them)
that a shot was played from a greenside bunker or the player hit the fairway
off the tee. Sometimes a button is disabled (like the fairway button on
par 3 holes). If you're keeping track of fairways hit, but the player didn't
hit any fairways, click the bigger fairway button marked "none"
at the right end of the row of buttons.

A Player's Preferred Course Buttons
Golf Personal can keep track of a favorite club, course and tees for
a player the club, course and tees they usually play from. This "preference"
is then used to automatically set up a new scorecard for a player (or the
first player added to an empty scorecard) ready for entering scores. By
clicking the Show button of any player on the scorecard, the scorecard will
be reconfigured to display that player's favorite club, course and tees
(for all players on the card). If the Show button is dim, the player doesn't
have a preference or the scorecard is already displaying the player's favorite
course. If you want to set the current club, course and tees as a player's
preference, just click the Set button in that player's scoring block. When
the Set button is dim, the scorecard is already displaying a player's favorite
course.

The Tournament Checkbox
Some handicapping methods require an indication when a round is played
as part of a tournament - an official or sanctioned event. If a player's
round meets that requirement, indicate so by clicking to check the box.
If you have the insertion point or selection inside a player's scoring block,
you can also check or uncheck the Tournament checkbox by choosing Tournament
from the Golf menu or typing T
on your keyboard.

Other Scoring Information
At the bottom of the expanded version of the scoring block are computed
values, based on scores, putts and greenside bunkers hit, for greens reached
in (or under) regulation, the number of sand saves and tries, and the player's
adjusted gross score - the player's gross score adjusted for stroke
limits imposed by the handicapping method used for the player. The adjusted
gross score is the score that's "turned in" for handicapping.
You can tell Golf Personal that a round you've
entered on a Scorecard is to be ignored when computing the player's handicap
by making sure the insertion point or the selection is in the player's scoring
block, then choosing Used In Handicapping from the Golf menu
to check (the round is used) or uncheck (the round is not used) the menu
item. You can also type - (Command-Minus) to toggle
this selection. Rounds that are ignored for handicapping have a little red
symbol next to the Adjusted Gross Score (on a Scorecard) or in the Handicap
column (in a player's list of rounds). |
