Preferences

There are some features of Golf Personal which you can make your preferred settings. You can indicate those settings by choosing Preferences from the Edit menu.

You can also press the Preferences button on the toolbar to open this dialog.

The Preferences Dialog - Startup Panel

The Preferences dialog includes four different tabbed panels in which to change various preferred settings used by Golf Personal. You select the panel of interest by clicking on its tab.

The "Startup" panel allows you to control the automatic opening of a Scorecard for a special golfer (perhaps yourself) when Golf Personal starts up - a handy feature if only one golfer is using the software. Click the "Open a Scorecard for the Favorite Player" button to tell Golf Personal you want a blank scorecard for the Favorite Player opened when it starts up. Otherwise, click the "Don't open any windows at startup" button. As the panel indicates, you can temporarily disable (or enable) opening a Scorecard for your Favorite Player by holding down the Option key while the Golf Personal is starting up.

The Preferences Dialog - Favorite Player Panel

The "Favorite Player" panel allows you to indicate the Player document file on your disk that you want to use as your "Favorite Player" - to be used to open a Scorecard at startup. You can set your Favorite Player by clicking the "Set" button. You will see a dialog allowing you to locate the Player file:

Selecting a Favorite Player

Locate the file you want to use, select it, and click the "Set" button. The name of the document will be displayed in the Favorite Player panel.

Shortcut: You can quickly make a Player your Favorite Player by dragging the Player's icon from the Players palette to the Favorite Player panel.

The Preferences Dialog - Options Panel

In the "Options" panel, you can turn off "Magic Tabbing" by unchecking the checkbox. Or, indicate that you want to use "Magic Tabbing" only when you are entering scores by checking the "for Scoring Only" checkbox. If you prefer, you can turn off the feature that shows scores in color (red for birdies, blue for pars, black for scores over par) and show all scores in black.

Usually, you don't want Golf Personal to allow entering scores for future dates. If you want to allow this kind of entry, check the "Allow future scores" checkbox.

Golf Personal will require that hole handicaps meet certain requirements when entered in a Club document when the "Enforce Even/Odd Hole Handicaps" box is checked. If you need to enter hole handicaps that don't meet those requirements, uncheck the box.

The Preferences Dialog - Extras Panel

If your computer has support installed for Speech (the "Talk" checkbox isn't dim) or Speech Recognition (the "Listen" checkbox isn't dim), you can enable Golf Personal to use either by checking the appropriate box. You can turn off the date and time information on printed reports by unchecking the "Date Printed Reports" checkbox and select the font you prefer for printing reports.

When you have made any changes on any of the Preferences panels, you can save your new preferred settings by clicking the OK button. If you decide not to change your preferred settings, click the Cancel button.
