Sides
Each Tee block contains an empty grid (which we'll call a "side")
for each nine that you've previously set up. The side grid already has the
nine name attached to it and its top row is shaded with the color of the
tee. If the course has two nines, the side grids are displayed side-by-side,
like a scorecard.
NOTE: Adding a tee or a nine will require Golf Personal to build and
display more side grids (one grid is needed for each tee on each nine).
With lots of tees or lots of nines, this can get out of hand pretty quickly,
so the Club document window can be scrolled up or down to show the parts
you're interested in. If your monitor is big enough, you can zoom the window
to show as much as possible at one time.
As we've decided before, a "side" is 9 holes from a certain
tee. All the sides for a tee are displayed in the tee block. It's in entering
the detailed yardage, par and handicap information that we finally describe
the course's scorecard.

Ready for Detail
It's simplest to start with the hole yardages.
Click in the "Ydg" box of the first hole of the side and type
the yardage of that hole:

Entering Hole Yardages
After you enter the yardage for the first hole, the selection, or flashing
insertion point, may "magically" move to the second hole, ready
for the next yardage. This feature is called "Magic Tabbing."
When Golf Personal detects that you've entered a valid number for yardage,
par or the hole handicap, it automatically moves (tabs) to the next field.
This will help speed your entry considerably because you aren't required
to type a TAB, RETURN or ENTER key to advance to the next hole, but it you
don't like it, you can disable it in Preferences... in the Edit
menu. You can disable Magic Tabbing altogether, or allow it just for scoring
(in Scorecard windows).
When entering yardages, Golf Personal will tab automatically for hole
yardages between 70 and 699 yards or meters. You may enter shorter (or longer)
distances, but you will need to advance to the next hole by tabbing yourself.
After you've entered all of the hole yardages, check the total on the
scorecard with the total on your screen. If they don't match and your hole
yardages are all correct, someone can't add.
Enter hole pars (numbers from 3 through 6 -
yes, 6):

Entering Hole Pars
Notice, if Magic Tabbing is active, that it should take you only 9 keystrokes
to enter all nine hole pars. Notice too, that whatever you enter for par
on a hole will auto matically be entered for par on the same hole for sides
you haven't completed yet on this nine. This automatic entry relieves you
of entering the same number again later.
If you want to enter "Junior Par" for
this side, choose Junior Par from the Golf menu.

Junior Par Dialog
The dialog gives you the option of selecting whether par is to be computed
for boys or girls and the Junior Par skill level. If you click the OK button,
junior pars will be calculated and filled in for you. Setting Junior Par
requires that hole yardages are already entered. Junior Par ranges from
3 through 9.
Finally, key the hole handicaps for each hole
on this side. Hole handicaps on a 9 -hole course or a course with more than
two nines are usually entered as 1 through 9. On an 18-hole course, hole
handicaps are entered as 1 through 18, usually with the odd numbered handicaps
of the front nine and the even numbered handicaps on the back nine. Golf
Personal will allow you to enter even or odd handicaps on either nine, but
you won't be able to mix even and odd numbers on the same nine unless you
turn off the "Enforce Even/Odd Hole Handicaps" option in your
preferred settings (choose Preferences... from the Edit menu).

Entering Hole Handicaps
Again, the Magic Tabbing feature reduces the number of keystrokes you
need to make for each hole and hole handicaps are filled in for you on sides
you haven't completed yet.
NOTE: Magic Tabbing won't tab away from an entry of "1" automatically
(see the example). Why? Because it's not sure what you intend here 1 or
some other number that begins with 1, like 11. For the number 1 handicap
hole, just key tab to move to the next hole.
When you've completed entering yardages, pars and handicaps for each
Side, you're done with this tee. That wasn't so bad, was it? Your results
might look like the following:

Three Completed Tees
Note in our example that yardages, pars and handicap numbers can all
be different from different tees.
NOTE: Golf Personal automatically fills in par and hole handicaps of
empty sides to relieve you of re-entering duplicate information about par
and hole handicaps for each tee. You can, of course, change any of this
pre-entered information if necessary. You can also wait to add a tee to
a course until you've completely entered the other tees - for example
waiting to add the Ladies' tees to the course until the Men's tees are completely
filled in. The new tee(s) will be added empty, ready for different information. |
